Inchicore is a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. It is to the west of central Dublin, near to Phoenix Park. It has a large Irish Rail depot nearby.

Inchicore is home to two Catholic Churches: the Church of Mary Immaculate (built by the Oblates), and St. Michaels.

Behind the Oblates Church is a full size replica of the Grotto of Lourdes, which was opened in 1930. The Grotto large -- 50' high, 130' wide and 40' deep. It is built of reinforced concrete. Pilgrims visit the shrine all the year, but it becomes particularly busy for the Novena to Our Lady of Lourdes (February 2 - February 11). The bowels of the grotto house the famous Inchicore Crib.

Inchicore is bounded on its western side by the Grand Canal, an 18th century mode of transport, as well as the Luas, Dublin's 21st century tram system built in 2004. To the north between Inchicore and Phoenix Park is Memorial Park, which was built to commemorate Irish who fell in World War I and World War II.

Inchicore Works is the headquarters for mechanical engineering and rolling stock maintenance for Irish Rail. Established in 1844, it is the largest engineering complex of its kind in Ireland with a site area of 73 acres (295,000 m²).

Inichore's Kilmainham Jail was the scene of the execution of many Irish Republican Army leaders captured after the Easter Rising in 1916. Goldenbridge Cemetery was the first Catholic cemetery built in Dublin after the Catholic Emancipation.

Paul McGrath, also know as The Black Pearl of Inchicore, is one of its most famous players. he went on to play for Manchester United and Aston Villa amongst others, and made 83 appearances for the Republic of Ireland. Italian superstar Roberto Baggio once described McGrath as "the greatest defender in the world" after Ireland beat Italy in the 1994 World Cup. St Pat's have won the Football League of Ireland Championship nine times and the FAI Cup twice and count on a large and passionate local following. Other famous players include Ronnie Whelan Senior, Shay Gibbons, Gordon Banks, Curtis Fleming, Paul Osam, Eddie Gormley and Charles Livingstone Mbabazi.

Inchicore
I moved to Inchicore in 1972 from the UK. It was a great a place to grow up. We had the canal the fields on top of Jamestown Rd they were fantasic play grounds.

I ventured once to the old Bobbin Mills site when it was being made into Golden Bridge Ind Est. I remember a hugh tunnel being built to cover the camac.

Who remembers queing at the Core ( Cinema ) ( now Tescos )to see Bruce Lee or the cake shop where you could buy a bag of crumbs for 2p and if you were lucky youd get half a pastry in it. Mooneys Shop on Jamestown / Tyreconnel Rd open 365 days.

Any one every jump off the 21 as it turned into Ring Terrace ?, you'd be running out of control for a few seconds before you could stop.

The Oblate School was great, Mr OShea was the principle in my time there 72-77 he drove a black VW Beetle. It was all boys back then with Mrs Foley the Sandwich lady, a nice little bottle of cold milk in the winter or sickningly warm in the summer. Then the sambos Cheese Mon - Corned beef Tue - Bun Wed - Corned beef Thu - Jam Fri.

Any one any pics of the beautiful house that used to stand opposite the cinema same side as the Bank of Ireland.

Thats my speak for now.

Kieran
